PSLA 270: Cinematic 3D Animation of Advanced Production SLA Printing

The Challenge
3D Systems needed a way to clearly communicate the benefits of their new PSLA 270 printer, a dual-projector SLA system designed for fast, precise, production-grade printing. The technology behind the printer is complex, and still images weren’t enough to convey the speed, surface quality, and operator-friendly design. They wanted a visual story that would resonate with both technical and non-technical audiences, especially for tradeshows, marketing campaigns, and landing pages.
The Solution
We designed a cinematic 3D animation that visually walks the viewer through the printer’s core innovations:
- The projection-based SLA process, shown through fluid simulations and dynamic paint effects that reveal parts layer by layer
- The fast and intuitive vat replacement, staged to highlight ease of use
- The printer in a real production context, with a photorealistic operator interacting naturally with the machine











To ensure the animation felt tactile and grounded, we used path-traced lighting, PBR shading, and fine microtexture details, giving every surface a real-world quality. These touches helped reflect the high part quality the PSLA 270 delivers.
The Results
The animation gave 3D Systems a high-impact asset for use in major tradeshows, online product launches, and marketing materials. It provided an effective way to demonstrate the printer’s capabilities in action, helping sales and marketing teams tell a more engaging product story across multiple channels.
